Library Bat Detector Kits
We are rolling out library loan kits in select communities across Alberta. See the list of participating libraries below.
Discover Bats in Your Community with Our Bat Detector Kits
Our Bat Detector Kits let you experience the hidden world of bats by making their ultrasonic echolocation calls audible to the human ear. Using a handheld bat detector, you’ll be able to hear these incredible sounds and start learning about the species living right in your area.
Kits include educational materials to help you understand what you’re hearing and to guide your bat-watching adventures. We want everyone to have the chance to explore nature, connect with wildlife, and discover the fascinating lives of bats.
Each kit includes:
Wildlife Acoustics Echo Meter Touch 2 – a state-of-the-art bat detector
Tablet for use with the detector (or connect your own phone or tablet if it supports USB-C or has a compatible adapter)
Secure carrying case to keep everything safe and portable
Information cards to guide your exploration (Want to preview? Download Our Quick Start Guide)
Bats of British Columbia, Version 2 – one of the most comprehensive resources for bat call identification (and it covers all Alberta species, too!)
